The Most Important Thing, Marks's insightful investment philosophy and time-tested approach, is a must read for every investor. Seth A. Klarman, president, The Baupost Group When I see memos from Howard Marks in my mail, they're the first thing I open and read. I always learn something, and that goes double for his book. Arthur T. Owens grabbed a brick and hurled it at the trash picker. Arthur had his reasons, and the brick hit the junkman in the arm, not the head. But none of that matters to the judge, who is ready to send Arthur to juvie forever. Amazingly, it's the junkman himself who offers an alternative: hours of community service working for him! >Arthur is given a rickety shopping cart and a list.

The Most Important Thing, by Howard Marks, provides Uncommon Sense for Thoughtful Investors.. As you might know, Howard Marks is an incredibly experienced investor, and co-founder of Oaktree Capital. To make the book even better, the newest version is annotated by other value investing hotshots, like Joel Greenblatt and Seth Klarman.. So if you’re keeping score.   The Most Important Thing is a “best of” his letters with some additional color added. I found it imminently quotable and insightful. I would categorize Marks as a defensive value investor in the vein of Seth Klarman, Warren Buffet, or Mohnish Pabrai.

Midwest Book Review This is a book I recommend you keep on your desk Charles Sizemore, Moneybuilder Marks' The Most Important Thing distilled the investing insight of his celebrated client memos into a single volume and, for the first time, made his time-tested philosophy available to general readers. In this edition, Marks's wisdome. From time to time people have wondered why reading is important. There seems so many other things to do with one's time. Reading is important for a variety of reasons. We will look at some of those fundamental reasons below, but it is important to realize that struggling with vital reading skills is not a sign of low intelligence.
